While there are many different systems involved in a vehicle, checking out a few key things before you purchase a used car can help you to better make your decision.

* Tires- Check for weathering (cracks or sidewall wear) and tread depth. Overly worn out tires will cost you money out of pocket right away and are a huge safety risk.
* Belts- Open up the hood & look for obvious cracks and wear on any belts including the engine belt, serpentine belt, v belt.
* Fluid levels & Condition- Check the engine oil after the car has had a moment to sit, make sure there is enough oil & it has good viscosity, no grit, carbon or dirt. Engine oil is best if it is on the lighter colored side. Transmission coolant should not smell or look “burned”. Radiator fluid should be properly filled & mixed.
* Cosmetic & Body condition- Check the condition of the body & the paint. Make sure all the lights, blinkers & windows work properly. Check the trunk & gas door releases. Make sure you know where these items are.
* Maintenance Records- Even a backyard mechanic can keep receipts from the auto parts store for oil & battery. Ask to see them. As a plus, some warranties are transferable with a vehicle.
* Air Conditioning System- Are there visible leaks? Is there noise when you run the air conditioner? Is it blowing cold?
* Brakes & Suspension- Visibly look at the rotors. Does the car pull to the left or to the right? Pulling is a bad sign. Does the car stop easily? It should. The brake pedal should be firm not spongy.

With so many systems on a car or truck obviously a professional inspection is a great idea. But if you are on your own looking for a used car print the above information and I hope it helps you to make a better used car decision, and helps to save you money in the long run.

Andrew Dale King has been taking things apart and putting them back together long enough to know that if you fix it right the first time it saves a lot of money, effort, and time. A second generation union heavy equipment mechanic he currently operates a mobile mechanic service based in the Henderson & Las Vegas area when he is not working on his wife’s Mustang or fixing the things his children have broken, or his dog chews.

German luxury cars are very popular, high-end vehicles that people love to drive in style. Vehicles such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz have a fine reputation for top-notch quality and a classy look. These cars cost a fortune, it is very important to preserve the quality and longevity of German luxury vehicles using German auto parts.

All cars break down to some degree after a while, and it is imperative that the parts be replaced with the make and model of the vehicle needing repair. Many auto dealers sell a wide variety of foreign and American auto repair products, so there are many products to choose from. Many dealers charge quite a bit, so many people are looking for alternative means of buying replacement parts.

Many German auto parts are available on the Internet at a reduced price than they are sold for at a live dealership. Virtual car dealerships sell to people all over the world and have good products and competitive shipping costs. Savvy auto consumers should make sure the part meets the OEM requirements to assure accurate and safe part replacement.

Car mechanics should look for Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM parts when repairing German-made vehicles. These types of parts are designed and packaged to meet the specific requirements of the luxury car’s make and model. OEM parts are thought to be authentic and reliable products, so many consumers search for these products.

Good maintenance involves using quality auto parts to keep the car running smoothly and efficiently. German auto products are available to repair even the most elite vehicles, including such popular brand names as Porsche and Saab. High quality products tend to last a long time, and German luxury cars are no exception because they are well engineered and built to last…

There are dozens of reasons why your vehicle might need a new coat of paint. Perhaps it is an old car and the paint is dull or even starting to peel. Or maybe it got scratched or some no good skunk went and keyed it. Whatever the reason, there are several things to consider before driving to the auto body or auto painting shop

The first is durability. After all, you want your new paint job to last. And a paint job will only last if the service provider uses good paint and professional equipment. Now, I don’t want to cast aspersions on chain stores, but in my humble opinion, some of the more popular auto painting chains cut corners, especially when it comes to paint. They use cheaper, thinner paints that can be applied more quickly. This saves them time and money on both the paint and the training. Unfortunately, many drivers are lured in by their impressive discounts and expeditious service, only to discover a year or two later that they need another paint job.

There are two viable options to the chain stores. The first is a local auto body shop that specialises in spray painting a car. These trained professionals actually take their time and deliver superior service. The only issue is that it costs about twice as much spray painting a car than at the chain stores. Fortunately, there is a far more affordable way to get a custom paint job and that is by spray painting a car on your own.

The most common misconception that keeps folks from attempting a job, is any job that they believe takes some special talent. Trust us, spray painting a car is not an artistic undertaking. It is a skill that can be acquired with a little patience and practice. You don’t need to be a Di Vinci or a Michelangelo to do it. In fact, the only thing you need is the right equipment, which can be purchased for around two-hundred pounds, and the right instructional programme. That is where I come in.

After years of practice and professional experience, I have developed my own professional system that can show you how to custom paint a car.

In my years in the automotive industry, I’ve learned that Subaru owners love their cars with good reason (the Subaru commercials are not lying!). Subaru’s handle well, have powerful engines, and with a few exceptions seem to last “forever.” Most Subaru’s sold in the US for from 1996 until now have been based around the 4 cylinder, 2.5L EJ25 engine in some variation.

The EJ25D was used from 1996-1999 in the Subaru Impreza (1998) Legacy/Outback (1996-1999) and the Subaru Forester). This engine was very popular – it produced a tremendous amount of power given its compact design and light weight. EJ25D’s are very fuel efficient. The upsides of this engine also caused some problems.

Dealing with Heat

The engine has a very wide bore (diameter of the cylinders) and a very short stroke (distance the pistons travel “up and down” in the cylinder). This means there is not much metal to absorb the heat the thing produces, so the cooling system must work flawlessly. Many shops report that Subaru radiators just don’t hold up well over time, and that they are too cheap to “rod out.” This means that if the radiator isn’t working properly, you’re better off getting a new radiator than working on your old one.

The head gasket is also considered problematic on the EJ25D. This engine seeps liquid out of the engine through the head gasket at times. Subaru has a chemical you can put in the engine which often times will fix the problem if it is applied early enough. If it isn’t dealt with, sufficient pressure can’t be maintained in the cooling system and the head gasket will “blow.” At that time, getting a replacement engine is a better option than having your mechanic fix the cylinder head.

EJ25D Replacement Options: Remanufactured, Rebuilt, or Used

You have a few options if your head gasket is blown on your EJ25D.

The first option you have is to buy a remanufactured cylinder head. A true remanufactured cylinder head is expensive and might not fix your problem if the block on your EJ25D is cracked. A good mechanic will “magnaflux” your block before putting the head on, but many shops don’t. If the block is cracked, you need an entirely different engine assembly. There are many different remanufacturers of cylinder heads. All good remanufacturers will magnaflux their heads to check for cracks and pressure check the head once the remanufacturing process is complete. Their process will use a seat and guide machine which produces a 3 angle seat and high quality valve seals. When the remanufacturing process is done, a remanufactured head will meet or exceed OEM standards. If you need an entire engine, a remanufactured Subaru engine is a viable option.

You could also buy a “rebuilt” head. A rebuilt head is typically, in this author’s opinion, a waste of money since the rebuild only fixes the point of failure, leaving many worn components in place. Longevity is highly questionable.

Finally, you can buy a used cylinder head or a used engine. This can be a good option if you can find an engine or head with “low miles,” since such an engine would have low wear and be “close to new.” Such an engine might not always look pretty, but it will almost always give a cost to value ratio that is very much in its favor. Tack on a lower labor cost and you’ll find that your total savings on a used Subaru engine make it very worthwhile.

Research your supplier

Whether you buy remanufactured, rebuilt, or used, there are two types of suppliers: great and horrible. Research your supplier before you buy! Check out BBB.com (the Better Business Bureau) to see how many complaints your potential supplier has, and how long they’ve been in business. If the company just opened be wary – there are many fly by night companies that open, screw enough people to get themselves in treble, close, and then open under another name. I talk to consumers everyday who tell me stories in tears that are so sad they make you want to cry with them. If the consumer would have just spent five minutes on bbb.com, they would have never thrown their money away!

Also, understand your supplier’s warranty. Many warranties require you to follow specific guidelines which are in place for your protection. If you don’t follow these guidelines you can damage the engine and void your warranty. Good suppliers will happily explain their warranty!

J. W. McBride has worked in the automotive industry for five years. He loves to save customers money by helping them find used parts. He particularly enjoys dealing with used Subaru Engines.

With Mitsubishi Eclipse Gauges, you are going to be able to know a lot of things that are going on and have a better chance at catching a problem early. However, there are a lot more benefits of having gauges that work on your vehicle. You need them to work for you if you are going to be able to have a high performing car. Some of the many benefits are:

1. Tells you what’s going on in your car – Gauges tell you when there is a problem and when your vehicle is working properly. You have them in your car for many different reasons and every driver knows that you need to know what each gauge on your car means to avoid any accident relating to the maintenance of your vehicle. With the Mitsubishi Eclipse you are going to be able to perform well without having your gauges tell you different when you take care of your car with the check-ups.

2. Help you diagnose a problem – When you have that light flash on your gauges, you are going to know that there is a problem. The gauges are going to tell you exactly where the problem is and you can fix it or take it into service to diagnose the problem correctly. You are going to be able to save yourself a lot of money when you take care of the problem quickly by looking at your gauges. You don’t need to be a mechanic to know that something is wrong with your car. With the Eclipse, you are going to seldom have a problem with your gauges, but it is always good to check on them.

3. Keeps you at bay – You don’t speed, you don’t overheat, and you check your engine when your light comes on. You are dependent on your car when you are driving and this is never a bad thing. When you are paying attention it keeps you from doing stupid things. Speed pedometer and your temperature gauge are only a few gauges that help keep your car healthy. You want to be able to fix the small problems so that you don’t run into bigger problems in the future. It makes sense that you are going to be able to have a safer driving experience in your car when you pay attention.

You are going to be able to have a lot of fun when you are paying attention to your Mitsubishi Eclipse gauges and know when and where a problem is happening on your car. When you are focused on your car, then you are going to be able to have it around for a while. It is the smart choice to make when you are going to be in the market for gauges that you get ones that you can easily read. In times of distress, you never can really focus 100% of the time and you need something that is easy to read and will allow you to get the problem fixed quickly. That is the main focus that Mitsubishi strives for.

There are lots of reasons why a windshield or a car window may shatter. There are instances when even if you are very careful with your car your windows or windshield may still be hit by a hard object that may cause it to shatter. First thing you should know is that there are 2 types of glass, regardless of the type of opt for your car, there may still come a time that it will be smashed and you need to replace it. Most of you must be thinking that an auto glass, is very expensive when you have it replaced that is why most people are not using their car anymore after the smashed incident.

But this is not true. You can have your car windshield and window replaced right away without spending so much money on it. There are lots of windshield repair company that allows emergency repair, this means you will only wait for a few minutes. You don’t have to leave your car with them anymore. They will be responsible for a quick repair. You will be able to understand the types of glass and why they need a repair through these:

The glass you will see in a car window is similar to the ordinary glass you have at home. It is made out of sharp pieces too similar to glass plates and drinking glasses but the Advent of technology allows glasses used in cars to improve in time to prevent people from extreme damage when an accident occur. The 2 types of glasses are:

a. Laminated -it contains 3 layers, one is the outside layer which is often the conventional glass, the centre which is a think core and typically composed of vinyl. This is typically the type of glass found in the windshield of the car.

b. Tempered -this type of glass is very durable because it was made out of heat and high temperature. It is used on the car sides and back windows. It can also be used for home and shower use because it is very durable.

Upon learning the types of glasses for cars most of you must be asking why a car glass may shatter even if it is the tempered type of glass. The tempered type of glass was also made from extreme heat to cure the glass and prevents it from smashing right away. But what usually happen is that the middle part of the glass which is usually a thin layer becomes triggered easily than the outer cover. When a snow hits it or when a strong impact hits it, invisible lines may develop that may trigger the breaking of the glass, in the long run, it will smashed without you knowing it.

The tempered glass can be repaired through a windshield replacement company. Mostly, it cost fair than expected. You don’t have to be bothered because the tempered type of glass doesn’t causes damage much on people since this is the safe type of glass and it usually breaks into small and uniform sizes. But of course, you need to have your windshield replaced since it is important to have one. You need to look for an auto glass repair company that can help you with your emergency needs right away. You need to hire an auto glass replacement company to help you with your needs. The advent of technology allows you to enjoy the benefits quick response can bring you. It’s nice to find companies that are reliable and can help you with your needs. You don’t have to wait that long because through an emergency glass repair company, you will be able to get adequate and quick response right away.

When you need new parts or new used parts for your vehicle, you can save a ton when you buy online. I come from a long family line of mechanics and auto enthusiasts and they’ve learned the ins and outs of getting affordable car parts.

All you really need to buy car parts online is an Internet connection and a credit card or PayPal account. The Internet is widely used today as a mode of communication and it’s also an excellent tool to get access to more of what you need and want. In the past, it was difficult to get car parts from outside of your area. You would have to have connections or have someone to order them for you such as through a car lot, dealership or repair shop.

Today you can cut out the middle man thus reducing the middle man fees. Using the Internet also allows you to find the parts that you need even if they are not in your local area. It also opens you up to new methods of communication to help you find specific parts you might be looking for.

There are literally hundreds of car part dealers out there that you can find on the Internet. You can search for the exact parts you need according to model numbers and vehicle types. This makes it easier than ever before to find exactly the car parts you need at the click of a button.

Because you are typically ordering straight from the dealership or the manufacturer, you can get incredible savings. The savings are passed on to you when you buy direct from the source of the part.

While there are many benefits to buying car parts online, there are some cautions to be aware of, like with anything. Always be sure you know who you are buying from and that they are a reputable dealer. You also want to be sure you are aware of any warranties and return policies that may be in effect for the items that you plan to purchase.

There are some cases where you will not be able to return the parts that you purchase online for your car so always be sure you know the fine print when you make your purchase. Buying car parts online gives you more opportunity to get what you need and save a buck or two in the process. Those savings then carry on to other things you want to be spending your money on.

Not a day goes by that we don’t receive a phone call from someone who has had the diagnostic trouble codes or DTC’s retrieved from their vehicles computer system, either with a generic code reader or another auto repair shop. And their first question is what is it going to cost to fix this code. Or they were told that the code means they need to replace a part and they have done that and the check engine light or service engine soon light is still on, and they don’t understand why.

The truth is that most people can’t memorize the entire DTC list for every vehicle from every manufacturer. And if they could memorize all of the DTC’s it is doubtful they can memorize all of the diagnostic trees for diagnosing those DTC’s.

What is a diagnostic tree you may be asking? Well, a diagnostic tree is a step by step method that the vehicles manufacturer has designed to properly find out what needs to be replaced or repaired to elminate the check engine light or service engine soon light.

Where people run into problems is the definition for the DTC gives a brief description of the system in the vehicle that is being effected and they are told or assume that replacing one part will fix the problem. Don’t get us wrong some DTC’s that is the only thing that is in the diagnostic tree is to replace that one part and the problem is fixed. But in almost all cases there are at least four or five steps of things to check before you have determined what really needs to be repaired or replaced. And some of the DTC’s have a small book of tests that need to be performed in order to find the problem.

This is why they are called diagnostic trees you need to start at the bottom of the tree first and climb up to the first branch before you can get to the second branch and continue on one branch at a time until you get to the top of the tree. Every branch of a diagnostic tree is a test that needs to be run and it will have a yes or no answer and that will lead you to the next branch or test that needs to be run. And just like climbing a real tree you can not skip a branch to get to the top of the tree.

Hopefully this has given you some insight as to what is involved with the proper diagnosis of your check engine light or service engine soon light.

When your car runs out of gas you make trip to the gas station to get it filled. You don’t think twice about it. That is because it is expected that the gas will run out once the car has completed the distance it can travel as per the mileage you are getting from your car. Gas therefore is clearly a consumable. Then there are other parts of your car that too are a consumable but need to be replaced after long periods of time. For example the car tires and the various fluids and filters that your car uses. These too get replaced or replenished as the case maybe when the car goes for servicing. And again you don’t think much about it.

But there are some car components which too can be replaced but are not regarded as a consumable. For example your car headlights. Now you may need to replace them if for some reason they got damaged. But if they are not damaged it is unlikely that the thought of replacing them will occur to you. And even if the performance of your car headlights is going down the change is so slow and subtle that it will not be easily obvious to you. However if you have a muscle car such as a Dodge Charger it makes sense to have Charger headlights to match.

You will be able to know how much the performance of your headlights has diminished if you will compare the lighting with the latest Charger headlights. Not only will your older headlights have lost some of their strength the latest headlights will have better technology delivering a better performance. They will have a better light source delivering a powerful beam and a better reflector making the road light up properly. The housing will be smarter looking as well.

Headlights do not cost much and improve the performance and looks of your car. They therefore give you great value for your money. You can choose them conveniently by going online. They are easy to install and will bring back excitement to the looks and the performance of your car. You can see the latest Charger headlights at http://www.ilovebodykits.com.

I’ve read many blogs on “How to build a Rat Rod ” and have wondered if any of them have any truth over others. The truth is in fact that many beginners as well as seasoned veterans build these cars and the only “rule” should be, how cool can you make it.

Now, be sure that you don’t confuse them with Hot Rods, which are generally classic hot rods that are pretty and shiny lots of chrome. And don’t confuse them with Muscle Cars. You know, Camaros, Gtos, Corvettes, etc, you get the picture.

Rat Rods are your old, rust bucket looking car. It can be very primitive, looking like your typical jalopy. They are all custom, built to the owners taste. Some say the more of a rust bucket, the better. Others like flat black paint, large whitewalls and red wheels, with zero chrome. But there is no “wrong” way to do it. Some don’t have a roof and some don’t even have any glass at all, almost prehistoric.

No one can truly tell you how to build it, but we can give you some ideas. You can turn any car into a Rat Rod, but do it with taste. I wouldn’t go out into your garage and spray flat black paint on your Lexus, if you know what I mean. Some of the more popular vehicles are 20s, through 50’s vehicles. Fords and Chevys are more popular, but dare to be different. Make a statement and build a Hudson or a Metropolitan.

So here’s how you do it:

Step 1: Find yourself a car that fits your personality, and no your bimmer does not count. Make sure the car is pre-fifties and preferably is poor condition.

Step 2: Tear the car apart. Remove all unecessary items that will get in the way like carpet, interior trim, emblems, you know, the stuff that makes cars look like, you know, a car!.

Step 3: Make sure you’ll be noticed: Be it painting your car flat black, leaving it rusty, or some other creative scheme, it cannot shine. Period! Cut off that silly exhaust and make it loud. You want your Rat Rod to be seen and heard.

Step 4: Finish it up with cool wheels and tires, some pinstriping, a beer can for a shifter knob, a keg for a fuel tank, etc (you get the picture).

Step 5: Cruise. This is what its all about. No trailer queens here. These cars are real drivers. Rain or shine and sometimes snow, there should be no excuse as to why your not cruising, and no, being out of gas doesn’t count.

And what better way to put this all together than by visiting the rat rod authority for all your needs for Rat Rods and even Hot Rods and Muscle Cars.
