There are dozens of reasons why your vehicle might need a new coat of paint. Perhaps it is an old car and the paint is dull or even starting to peel. Or maybe it got scratched or some no good skunk went and keyed it. Whatever the reason, there are several things to consider before driving to the auto body or auto painting shop

The first is durability. After all, you want your new paint job to last. And a paint job will only last if the service provider uses good paint and professional equipment. Now, I don’t want to cast aspersions on chain stores, but in my humble opinion, some of the more popular auto painting chains cut corners, especially when it comes to paint. They use cheaper, thinner paints that can be applied more quickly. This saves them time and money on both the paint and the training. Unfortunately, many drivers are lured in by their impressive discounts and expeditious service, only to discover a year or two later that they need another paint job.

There are two viable options to the chain stores. The first is a local auto body shop that specialises in spray painting a car. These trained professionals actually take their time and deliver superior service. The only issue is that it costs about twice as much spray painting a car than at the chain stores. Fortunately, there is a far more affordable way to get a custom paint job and that is by spray painting a car on your own.

The most common misconception that keeps folks from attempting a job, is any job that they believe takes some special talent. Trust us, spray painting a car is not an artistic undertaking. It is a skill that can be acquired with a little patience and practice. You don’t need to be a Di Vinci or a Michelangelo to do it. In fact, the only thing you need is the right equipment, which can be purchased for around two-hundred pounds, and the right instructional programme. That is where I come in.

After years of practice and professional experience, I have developed my own professional system that can show you how to custom paint a car.

With Mitsubishi Eclipse Gauges, you are going to be able to know a lot of things that are going on and have a better chance at catching a problem early. However, there are a lot more benefits of having gauges that work on your vehicle. You need them to work for you if you are going to be able to have a high performing car. Some of the many benefits are:

1. Tells you what’s going on in your car – Gauges tell you when there is a problem and when your vehicle is working properly. You have them in your car for many different reasons and every driver knows that you need to know what each gauge on your car means to avoid any accident relating to the maintenance of your vehicle. With the Mitsubishi Eclipse you are going to be able to perform well without having your gauges tell you different when you take care of your car with the check-ups.

2. Help you diagnose a problem – When you have that light flash on your gauges, you are going to know that there is a problem. The gauges are going to tell you exactly where the problem is and you can fix it or take it into service to diagnose the problem correctly. You are going to be able to save yourself a lot of money when you take care of the problem quickly by looking at your gauges. You don’t need to be a mechanic to know that something is wrong with your car. With the Eclipse, you are going to seldom have a problem with your gauges, but it is always good to check on them.

3. Keeps you at bay – You don’t speed, you don’t overheat, and you check your engine when your light comes on. You are dependent on your car when you are driving and this is never a bad thing. When you are paying attention it keeps you from doing stupid things. Speed pedometer and your temperature gauge are only a few gauges that help keep your car healthy. You want to be able to fix the small problems so that you don’t run into bigger problems in the future. It makes sense that you are going to be able to have a safer driving experience in your car when you pay attention.

You are going to be able to have a lot of fun when you are paying attention to your Mitsubishi Eclipse gauges and know when and where a problem is happening on your car. When you are focused on your car, then you are going to be able to have it around for a while. It is the smart choice to make when you are going to be in the market for gauges that you get ones that you can easily read. In times of distress, you never can really focus 100% of the time and you need something that is easy to read and will allow you to get the problem fixed quickly. That is the main focus that Mitsubishi strives for.

Get all the parts you need for your Eclipse at Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts

Owning a car can be an expensive job, but having a good extended car warranty for your used car can go a long way in making things more affordable. Some people think that you only need a warranty on a new car, and while that is also a good idea, it is usually the older cars that are more likely to break down. In fact, most people never even get to use their warranty on their brand new car, so while it does offer peace of mind, it can also be a waste of money.

Any used car that that breaks down a lot can become more of a liability to you and your financial future. With an old junker you can spend more on repairs every month than you would on a car payment for a brand new vehicle. If you are reading this you are probably already interested in an extended auto warranty of some kind so let’s look at some things you should look for in your search.

There are some companies that offer 0% financing. Keep in mind that even 5% financing may seem small, but with costly repairs this can add up fast, so if you can get a 0% warranty consider yourself lucky. One thing I always look for is that road side assistance and towing is included. Your used car or truck will probably not break down right at a mechanic’s shop or your own driveway. Chances are you will be driving somewhere and tow trucks can cost a pretty penny.

Sometimes you can get lock-out assistance as well, and you never know when that will come in handy. Another thing to look for is free car rental with any repairs. Sometimes your automobile will have to be in the shop for a few days and 3 days worth of car rental can cost a lot of money. A good extended warranty company will pay for all of this as well.

Also make sure that the company has a good claims record. All the best coverage in the world will mean nothing if they will not follow through on it and you end up having to pay for all the repairs yourself. Want to get the best deal and coverage? Check out where I got the best extended car warranty and saved about 60%. You can also find great deals and advice on specific brands of cars like the Infiniti extended warranty.

There is one call that every auto owner hates to get, that is the call when your mechanic tells you that he found a major problem with your car. You only brought it in for an oil change! According to auto repair shops the top ten most frequent car repairs are:

1) Brake system

2) Oil change/lube

3) Cool system (radiator)

4) Ignition

5) Suspension

6) Fuel system

7) Electrical system

 Transmission

9) Air conditioning

10) Exhaust

There are ways to keep your repair costs down. One of the easiest and best ways is preventative maintenance. Regularly schedule trips to your mechanic or service station can save you lots of money from future problems. Most cars have manufacturer’s maintenance schedules or you can ask your mechanic if they have their own.

Being aware of your car is important as well. Keep your eyes ears and nose open. You can visually check your car yourself. Checking all your fluids and making sure they are topped is an easy thing to do. You can inspect your tires for wear and to see if they require rotation. Do you see oil, water or break fluid under the car?

Be aware of how the car sounds. Does it sound loud while driving. Do you hear squeaks while breaking. Do you hear squealing when you turn? Do you smell fumes or smoke or burning wires? Being diligent can help keep repair coasts down.

When you do have to repair or service, make sure you ask for a written estimate ahead of time. Make sure that the mechanic will ask your approval before any repairs are made. So what they suggest and what may prevent future problems. Finding a good mechanic should be done before you need repairs done. But if you are having your car maintained regularly this should not be a problem. Make sure you are using a competent and professional mechanic for your repair work and servicing. Cheap price does not mean good work. As they say you get what you pay for. Check to see if the mechanic uses new or used parts in the repairs. Make sure the shop is clean and orderly as well.

Some problems are foreseeable and can be prevented, other problems cannot. Having a trustworthy mechanic in mind before anything happens can save a lot of headaches. As cars get older wear and tear does take its toll and repairs will be necessary at some point. Just take care and be aware.

It is essential to keep your car in great condition if you wish to hold onto the resale value and overall appeal. The easiest way to keep your car looking great is to keep the paintwork in top condition. Prevention is always the easiest course but no matter how careful we are with our cars, they will no doubt end up with the odd scratch or two somewhere along the way.

To prevent your car from paint damage make sure you wash and wax it regularly with a good quality product. It is important to use car wash rather than usual detergent as the residual film left on the paintwork may eat away over time causing areas that are vulnerable to further damage. Always keep your car in the garage or undercover to protect the paint.

If you do find yourself with some scratches or chips in your paintwork don’t worry, an easy and cost effective do-it-yourself car paint touch up kit will solve the problem in no time. It is important to touch up the damaged or affected areas as soon as they appear so that they don’t develop into much larger and more expensive issues later on. Touching up the paint early on can be done with perfect color matching and will cost a fraction of the price of a major repair.

Matching the color of the paint should be easy; most models identify the cars color code on a sticker located on the inside of the door. If this sticker is not found on your vehicle or is too difficult to read, the paint manufacturer will still be able to match the colour based on the cars make, model and year.

Always ensure that you order more paint than you need, a good basis is 10-20% more than your original estimate, this way you won’t get stuck half way through a touch up with not enough paint to go around. You should also apply at least two coats of touch up paint to ensure that the repair is long lasting and durable.

Once you have touched up all of the paint chips and scratches on your car, ensure that you maintain good preventative measures such as careful driving, regular washing and storing your car in a shaded area to keep your car looking in top shape all year round. Using a do-it-yourself car paint touch up kit is a sure fire way to improve the overall value and resale price of your car.

An auto tachometer is located on the dashboard of a vehicle and measures the actions of the engine drive shaft in revolutions per minutes (otherwise known as RPM). Because a car’s engine can be worn out by driving too fast over time, one needs to keep an eye on the tachometer. This way, speed will not be a factor in the demise of the car’s engine.

As an example of what a tachometer can be used for, think of driving a car up a hill. By watching the tachometer, you will know if you should shift gears. This gives a visual cue to help you drive your car in the most efficient manner.

Tachometers are very easy to install, and can normally be installed in half an hour or less. You do not have to take off the dashboard as you can drill 2 wiring holes to complete the installation. Make sure that you install it so that you can easily see it while driving.

Another consideration when installing a tachometer is making sure that it is durable. Because you may be traveling at higher speeds or over rough terrain, you want a tachometer that will hold up and not break or shatter.

In addition, make sure that your tachometer is compatible with your vehicle. They normally work with 12V systems with 4 to 8 cylinders. Think about where to position the tachometer because you may end up needing additional accessories depending on its location.

Unless you are driving a diesel vehicle, there are many other options when it comes to picking a tachometer. One popular use for tachometers is to keep up with fuel economy. For the environmentally conscious driver, there are many great options available to monitor fuel efficiency.

In addition, there are several options as to the color and the type of illumination. Some drivers want the tachometer to match their vehicle, so you can choose black, white or even chrome. You can also pick the color of the lighting on many models.

Many people love their automobiles and want the very best auto tachometer they can find. There are many to choose from in all kinds of styles, colors and price ranges. Make sure that when you are looking to purchase a tachometer, you compare prices, read reviews and know the specifications available

As surely as our joints grow sore with age, so too, do our vehicles become more noisy as they grow older. It’s part of the automotive aging process. Unfortunately, tracking down the source of the squeaks and vibrations is often more difficult than mere part failures. If your catalytic converter or alternator fails, you’ll know within minutes. If your transmission or engine overheats, the smoke billowing from under the hood is a clear sign.

When you hear an occasional rattle that becomes persistent with time, identifying the cause can be problematic. In this article, we’ll describe a few reasons why your car, truck, or SUV begins to groan as it ages.

What Causes Rattling And Squeaking?

Rattling and squeaking can come from a number of sources. In some cases, the problem is under the dashboard. Other times, it’s in the brakes. Depending on the age of your car, the noise might be caused by your suspension. The first step in determining the cause is to isolate the general source. Do you hear the rattle under your seat? That suggests the suspension. Is squeaking coming from the rear of your vehicle next to a tire? If so, your brake pads may be worn. Does the noise occur only when driving over large bumps? Your shocks might be failing.

Tracking Down Leaks

Have you ever been annoyed by a persistent air leak while driving with your windows up? Ever heard a tedious drip while driving in rainy weather? Both types of leaks are incredibly difficult to find. You’ll need a friend to help you locate their source.

With water leaks, have a friend remain within the cab of your vehicle while you hose it down from outside. If the leak is visible inside the interior, your friend should be able to easily locate it (a flashlight helps). If water is leaking within the door, he or she can at least isolate it.

Identifying the source of air leaks requires using a special device while driving. Ask your friend to accompany you while you take your vehicle on the highway. Then, ask him or her to use the leak-identification tool while you pilot your car.

Finding The Source Of Vibrations

Vibrations can come from your car’s chassis, drivetrain, suspension, or engine. Those caused by your chassis are difficult to identify because the location seems to migrate over time. By contrast, the drivetrain will send a clear signal by vibrating your entire automobile.

The most common sources of vibrations are the suspension and the tires. Vibrating tires suggest a balancing issue. On the other hand, if you feel shaking in the steering wheel, that suggests the arm bushings, strut bearings, shocks, or joints may be failing.

If you notice rattling, squeaking, leaks, or vibrations, have them fixed. They will not resolve themselves. Instead, they will continue to worsen, leaving you with a higher repair bill in the future

If your brake pads wear down, you drive to a mechanic and have them replaced. If your alternator dies, you buy a new one and have it installed. Same with batteries, filters, hoses, and pumps. It’s inconvenient and the cost is unpleasant, but both are manageable. Transmissions are an entirely different matter. They can (and should) last for years. But, when they fail, they’re enormously expensive to fix or replace.

The good news is that not all signs of trouble herald a costly overhaul. Some can be fixed inexpensively. Below, we’ll revisit the main components of your transmission and some of the factors that can cause a glitch. We’ll also explore your options with regard to having problems resolved.

Reviewing The Basic Structure

Your vehicle’s tranny is a complex assembly of parts. They work fluidly with each other to shift gears at optimal times given the conditions in which you’re driving. To keep things relatively simple, we’ll address the main elements and ignore the rest.

The gears (including the ring, planet, and sun gears) are the cornerstone of your car’s transmission. While every component of your tranny is essential, the gears are responsible for your ability to drive at a speed faster than a snail’s crawl.

Fluid is another critical factor. In the same way motor oil is vital to the health of your vehicle’s engine, the red fluid that courses through your transmission is also crucial. And in the same way oil collects debris over time, so too, does the fluid in your tranny. That’s why a filter is necessary – to catch the debris before it enters the assembly.

Being aware of the parts that comprise the basic structure makes is easier to diagnose problems when they occur.

Factors That Can Cause Problems

Most problems happen as the result of low fluid levels or worn parts. Oddly, though many drivers will routinely check their motor oil level, they’ll neglect to check the fluid level in their car’s tranny. Get into the habit of checking it two or three times each year. Otherwise, a leak may form and go unnoticed, eventually causing damage throughout the assembly.

Leaks can form in a few places, including near the selector shaft, speed sensor, or at a number of seals or gaskets. In most cases, the fluid will have a reddish hue, making it easy to identify. Keep in mind that leaks will not go away on their own. You’ll need to have a trained mechanic fix them.

What Are Your Repair Options?

Again, not every transmission problem suggests an overhaul or replacement is necessary. Leaks, in particular, can usually be fixed by resealing them. If parts are worn out, your mechanic may be able to replace them without removing the assembly from your vehicle. If he doesn’t need to lift the tranny, replacing worn parts will be relatively inexpensive.

If you do need to have your vehicle’s transmission overhauled or replaced, prepare yourself for a hefty repair bill. Whether your mechanic overhauls the existing assembly or replaces it with a remanufactured model, both routes will be costly. The silver lining is that your new transmission will last for years.

Have you ever experienced being in the middle of the road when your car just conked out on you? Or maybe you were in a hurry for an important meeting but just could not get your car engine to rev up? Perhaps your car just keeps on sputtering while you are driving. Once you have experienced any of these, a visit to a good auto shop is a must.

Sometimes, when people are too busy, they often neglect the need to take care of the things that offer faithful service to them everyday. One of the really good examples is the car. At times, people fail to take notice of the groans of their vehicles and end up with a broken car instead.

You have to be aware of how your car runs. Your familiarization with the “ride” of your car would greatly help you determine whether your car needs some tweaking and fixing or not. If you feel like you are riding in an old vibrating vehicle, your tires might need some balancing and alignment.

One important aspect that you have to be constantly aware of is your breaks. When it sinks to the floor when you apply pressure, or if your car moves sideways every time you apply the breaks, then there is definitely a problem and it is a very ripe time to let an auto mechanic check your car.

An auto service in Atlanta would only take some of your time and you don’t need to watch your car the whole time. It is a good idea to leave your car at the shop while it is being checked for any problems and it enables the mechanics to check your car thoroughly.

Achieving your goal of owning your own car is a great accomplishment. You are now free to easily reach anywhere that you want to go from the comfort of your own set of wheels. However before you start driving up and down the country you need to be aware that the task of owning a car does not end with just buying one, you need to know how to properly take care of your car as well.

Car maintenance, even in its most basic form is something that all car owners should be aware of. You need to be able to perform tasks such as checking the engine oil, the pressure of the tyres and the condition of your brakes. You also need to take your car in for regular service sessions and wash it on a regular basis in other to protect it from extreme weather conditions such as rain and snow. All of these represent the usual steps that all car lovers should take in order to maintain vehicles.

Being able to do aspects such as the above can save you money as you don’t have to rely on the skills of a mechanic to do everything for you. All you will need is some basic tools to do the job and a bit of free time in which to do it in. So to help you achieve this see some of the maintenance facts and advice below:

Brakes

In regards to safety these are one of the most important aspects of your car. It is compulsory that your brakes are kept in the best condition possible. However it is important to remember most brake problems develop gradually and do not rise to serious levels suddenly. Some of the main ways to spot potential problems within your brakes are through looking for aspects such as if there is a lot of pedal movement before the brakes begin to bite then they possibly need adjusting or if the brakes feel spongy or lack sharpness then it could be an indication of air in the system. Also if you pull on your handbrake and it takes more than a few clicks before it will hold the car on the hill then you need to get it checked out.

If you do feel there is a problem with your brakes it is important that you don’t use the car until you get them fixed.

Oil

If you are driving your car without the right amount of oil then it could be significantly damaging to your vehicle. To stop this potential problem you should check your oil on a regular basis, between every two or three weeks if possible. The best way to do this is when the engine is cool and when the car is on a flat surface.

The way you go about doing this is with the dipstick, which usually sticks out from one side of the engine. You should pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean then return it and pull it out again. When you take it out again you need to check that the oil mark is between the upper and lower limits.

Tyres

Your tyres have a legal minimum tread depth. If you drive on tyres that are in poor condition or that are incorrectly inflated it is dangerous and could potential cause you to have an accident, which is why it is important that you check the pressure of your tyres.

The right amount of pressure for your tyres should be listed in your manual. It is also common that your front and back tyres would be different amounts. When you are checking the pressure on your tyres you should ensure the tyres are cold otherwise you could get a falsely high reading. If the amount shown on the pressure gauge is below the amount mentioned in your owner’s manual then you will have to inflate the tyres. If by mistake you put too much air in your tyres then you should depress the pin in the centre of the valve to let some out.

Coolant

The cooling system within your car protects your engine from overheating. It is vital that you check and top-up your coolant at least once every two or three weeks, however during the hot summer months it is important that you check it more frequently.

These are just a few of the basic aspects associated with car maintenance. Ensuring all of the above will increase the life of your car and keep it running more smoothly. None of the above will take up too much of your time so make sure you fit these maintenance steps into your life and the life of your car.
