While there are many different systems involved in a vehicle, checking out a few key things before you purchase a used car can help you to better make your decision.

* Tires- Check for weathering (cracks or sidewall wear) and tread depth. Overly worn out tires will cost you money out of pocket right away and are a huge safety risk.
* Belts- Open up the hood & look for obvious cracks and wear on any belts including the engine belt, serpentine belt, v belt.
* Fluid levels & Condition- Check the engine oil after the car has had a moment to sit, make sure there is enough oil & it has good viscosity, no grit, carbon or dirt. Engine oil is best if it is on the lighter colored side. Transmission coolant should not smell or look “burned”. Radiator fluid should be properly filled & mixed.
* Cosmetic & Body condition- Check the condition of the body & the paint. Make sure all the lights, blinkers & windows work properly. Check the trunk & gas door releases. Make sure you know where these items are.
* Maintenance Records- Even a backyard mechanic can keep receipts from the auto parts store for oil & battery. Ask to see them. As a plus, some warranties are transferable with a vehicle.
* Air Conditioning System- Are there visible leaks? Is there noise when you run the air conditioner? Is it blowing cold?
* Brakes & Suspension- Visibly look at the rotors. Does the car pull to the left or to the right? Pulling is a bad sign. Does the car stop easily? It should. The brake pedal should be firm not spongy.

With so many systems on a car or truck obviously a professional inspection is a great idea. But if you are on your own looking for a used car print the above information and I hope it helps you to make a better used car decision, and helps to save you money in the long run.

Andrew Dale King has been taking things apart and putting them back together long enough to know that if you fix it right the first time it saves a lot of money, effort, and time. A second generation union heavy equipment mechanic he currently operates a mobile mechanic service based in the Henderson & Las Vegas area when he is not working on his wife’s Mustang or fixing the things his children have broken, or his dog chews. His website is http://www.kingautohenderson.com

There are dozens of reasons why your vehicle might need a new coat of paint. Perhaps it is an old car and the paint is dull or even starting to peel. Or maybe it got scratched or some no good skunk went and keyed it. Whatever the reason, there are several things to consider before driving to the auto body or auto painting shop

The first is durability. After all, you want your new paint job to last. And a paint job will only last if the service provider uses good paint and professional equipment. Now, I don’t want to cast aspersions on chain stores, but in my humble opinion, some of the more popular auto painting chains cut corners, especially when it comes to paint. They use cheaper, thinner paints that can be applied more quickly. This saves them time and money on both the paint and the training. Unfortunately, many drivers are lured in by their impressive discounts and expeditious service, only to discover a year or two later that they need another paint job.

There are two viable options to the chain stores. The first is a local auto body shop that specialises in spray painting a car. These trained professionals actually take their time and deliver superior service. The only issue is that it costs about twice as much spray painting a car than at the chain stores. Fortunately, there is a far more affordable way to get a custom paint job and that is by spray painting a car on your own.

The most common misconception that keeps folks from attempting a job, is any job that they believe takes some special talent. Trust us, spray painting a car is not an artistic undertaking. It is a skill that can be acquired with a little patience and practice. You don’t need to be a Di Vinci or a Michelangelo to do it. In fact, the only thing you need is the right equipment, which can be purchased for around two-hundred pounds, and the right instructional programme. That is where I come in.

After years of practice and professional experience, I have developed my own professional system that can show you how to custom paint a car.

With Mitsubishi Eclipse Gauges, you are going to be able to know a lot of things that are going on and have a better chance at catching a problem early. However, there are a lot more benefits of having gauges that work on your vehicle. You need them to work for you if you are going to be able to have a high performing car. Some of the many benefits are:

1. Tells you what’s going on in your car – Gauges tell you when there is a problem and when your vehicle is working properly. You have them in your car for many different reasons and every driver knows that you need to know what each gauge on your car means to avoid any accident relating to the maintenance of your vehicle. With the Mitsubishi Eclipse you are going to be able to perform well without having your gauges tell you different when you take care of your car with the check-ups.

2. Help you diagnose a problem – When you have that light flash on your gauges, you are going to know that there is a problem. The gauges are going to tell you exactly where the problem is and you can fix it or take it into service to diagnose the problem correctly. You are going to be able to save yourself a lot of money when you take care of the problem quickly by looking at your gauges. You don’t need to be a mechanic to know that something is wrong with your car. With the Eclipse, you are going to seldom have a problem with your gauges, but it is always good to check on them.

3. Keeps you at bay – You don’t speed, you don’t overheat, and you check your engine when your light comes on. You are dependent on your car when you are driving and this is never a bad thing. When you are paying attention it keeps you from doing stupid things. Speed pedometer and your temperature gauge are only a few gauges that help keep your car healthy. You want to be able to fix the small problems so that you don’t run into bigger problems in the future. It makes sense that you are going to be able to have a safer driving experience in your car when you pay attention.

You are going to be able to have a lot of fun when you are paying attention to your Mitsubishi Eclipse gauges and know when and where a problem is happening on your car. When you are focused on your car, then you are going to be able to have it around for a while. It is the smart choice to make when you are going to be in the market for gauges that you get ones that you can easily read. In times of distress, you never can really focus 100% of the time and you need something that is easy to read and will allow you to get the problem fixed quickly. That is the main focus that Mitsubishi strives for.

Get all the parts you need for your Eclipse at Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts

Not a day goes by that we don’t receive a phone call from someone who has had the diagnostic trouble codes or DTC’s retrieved from their vehicles computer system, either with a generic code reader or another auto repair shop. And their first question is what is it going to cost to fix this code. Or they were told that the code means they need to replace a part and they have done that and the check engine light or service engine soon light is still on, and they don’t understand why.

The truth is that most people can’t memorize the entire DTC list for every vehicle from every manufacturer. And if they could memorize all of the DTC’s it is doubtful they can memorize all of the diagnostic trees for diagnosing those DTC’s.

What is a diagnostic tree you may be asking? Well, a diagnostic tree is a step by step method that the vehicles manufacturer has designed to properly find out what needs to be replaced or repaired to elminate the check engine light or service engine soon light.

Where people run into problems is the definition for the DTC gives a brief description of the system in the vehicle that is being effected and they are told or assume that replacing one part will fix the problem. Don’t get us wrong some DTC’s that is the only thing that is in the diagnostic tree is to replace that one part and the problem is fixed. But in almost all cases there are at least four or five steps of things to check before you have determined what really needs to be repaired or replaced. And some of the DTC’s have a small book of tests that need to be performed in order to find the problem.

This is why they are called diagnostic trees you need to start at the bottom of the tree first and climb up to the first branch before you can get to the second branch and continue on one branch at a time until you get to the top of the tree. Every branch of a diagnostic tree is a test that needs to be run and it will have a yes or no answer and that will lead you to the next branch or test that needs to be run. And just like climbing a real tree you can not skip a branch to get to the top of the tree.

Hopefully this has given you some insight as to what is involved with the proper diagnosis of your check engine light or service engine soon light.

There are many parts of the car which can be replaced to make your car run stronger and faster. This is true no matter what the manufacturer. Simply pulling one part and dropping in another will alter the amount of power or gain which is achieved by the engine. Many people looking to enhance the performance of their vehicle will run into a wall unless they take the time to update the software which is being used by their car. This means altering the engine computer software which is being used to regulate the many different functions the vehicle performs.

Like it or not the vehicles of today are far more advanced in every way. Functions do not happen simply by mechanical means. There are computers on board which control everything from air flow to the amount of gas which is being used. Having the right balance will make it where the engine can run as efficiently as possible.

If your vehicle has not been to the dealership in the past 2-5 years, or your current repair shop has not offered to check your vehicle for a software update, then you have about an 80% chance of requiring an update. Ask this simple question the next time you see your mechanic, “does your shop have the ability to update my vehicles software if needed?” If they have the famous deer in the headlights look on their face and say no, then you may need to look elsewhere for a repair shop with current training and up to date tools required to properly service your vehicle and keep you safe.

I know a lot of technicians and repair shops that have never performed an update, stating “all that does is mess up the computer, and causes future problems”. They could not be further from the truth. The manufacturers would not spend time and money on correcting their faulty software if they did not need to. With parts becoming more reliable, and vehicles designed to be virtually maintenance free of tune ups until 90,000 miles, we are seeing the need of parts replacement declining as fast as software updates rise.

Recently there were customer complaints of their rear brakes locking up during certain stops, causing loss of vehicle control, which could result in a crash without warning. The vehicle manufacturer inspected the entire braking system, paying special attention to the rear brakes, and found no reason for the brakes to fail. They eventually found the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) computer on about 50,600 vehicles with software programmed to lock up the rear brakes during certain stops. The “Fix” for the Recall consisted of a software update; no special or replacement parts were needed.

As you can see, even cars which are not being enhanced to get more performance are in need of software updates to correct faulty programming. Correcting safety concerns is likely the most important reason to have your vehicle checked for updates. Other issues fixed by software updates may include repairs to the check engine light, transmissions, alternators, and even belt “chirp” noises.

You may be in panic if you came to know that you lost Mitsubishi keys because you would not even be able to turn the ignition. No longer are car keys simple keys but with changing technologies, car keys have been changed and now your Mitsubishi car has Immobilizer keys protect your car from auto theft. However, this safeguard backfires when you lost Mitsubishi keys in Chicago. Not only is that frustrating but just visiting a local key maker will not solve your problem as these are not simple keys that can be cut anywhere. Dealing with Mitsubishi lost keys is not an easy thing anymore it is a huge expense, including the towing charges, if you take it to your dealer.

To get your Mitsubishi lost keys replaced, you need to look for one of the best Chicago locksmiths to get an Immobilizer key coded as not every locksmith has the high precision equipment or the technical knowledge to do it. Usually a good and reputed locksmith would be able to help replace Mitsubishi lost keys at less than half the cost of any Mitsubishi dealership. Amazed? Well, its true!

Affordable Chicago locksmith services also provide emergency locksmith services in the city of Chicago and surrounding areas all through the year. Not only can they make spare keys, code immobilizer keys, make new transponder Mitsubishi keys, cut laser keys, open high security deadlocks or make a spare for high security locks, they have the knowledge and the expertise to gain entry into your car without damage, in case, your car keys are left inside.

In these recent decades, Mitsubishi has been manufacturing high security anti theft systems which are inbuilt into cars manufactured after 1995. But the latest Mitsubishi cars have hi end precision coded chip keys that not every locksmith in Chicago can replicate. There are only a select few locksmith services that have costly state of art technologically savvy equipment to do the quality transponder key cutting and coding machinery.

Chicago locksmiths have the info and techniques to cut keys to code which means that even if you have Mitsubishi lost keys, the expert locksmiths can cut keys from the ignition or door lock.

Other services that are provided are:
• Emergency key cutting services on-site
• Cutting keys from a pattern
• Replacing or replicating coded lost keys
• Hi end security key coding
• Programming transponder keys
• Installing new locks

Though we provide state-of-art, emergency locksmith services all through the year, we ensure that you will never be left stranded on the road with instant onsite key replacements. However, it is best that you try locating Mitsubishi lost keys and mentally try going over all the places you might have left the keys. But if you have looked at all the possible places and yet stranded without car keys, it is best to call in a professional locksmith or get your car towed to the Mitsubishi dealer for key replacements.

The only difference between calling a professional Chicago locksmith and taking your car to a dealer is that firstly, the car dealer will take a few days to get you a set of spare keys whereas the professional Chicago locksmith would take about 1 hour at the maximum to get you the car keys.

Secondly, when you take the car to a dealer, you need to pay towing charges whereas the professional emergency Chicago locksmith will come where you are stranded. Thirdly, dealer would make the spare keys at around $700-$1000 while you would get the same keys cut by professional locksmiths at around $250-$400.

You can rely on Omega Locksmith in Chicago to provide fast, inexpensive, and convenient locksmith services. From transponder keys, duplication, security, or an emergency locksmith, Omega Locksmith can assist you.

No one likes getting into accidents. Besides the obvious fact that accidents are frightening and dangerous in themselves, getting your car fixed after an accident can be a huge hassle. Finding a good auto service is harder than it seems.

So, what should you keep in mind when looking for a good auto service in San Francisco? Here are some tips:

1. Time

Time is precious. Before anything else, ask a prospective auto service how long it will take them to repair your car. Try to find one that’ll have your car fixed in a day or two.

2. ASE State Certified

It would also be good to look for a repair shop that hires only ASE State Certified mechanics. This way, you can be sure that your car is in good hands and that they’ll get the repairs done right – the first time.

3. No unnecessary repairs

Also make sure that they don’t try to get you to pay for additional repairs your car doesn’t really need. A lot of shops will try to add costs to your bill, so be very wary. Look for a shop that’s honest and will only fix what is broken.

4. Warranties

Finally, check if the shop gives warranties. A 24 month/ 24,000 mile warranty would be good. These four tips will help you find a good auto shop in San Francisco. Remember the key here is to do your research, collect information and prospective shops and select the best. Good luck!

There is one call that every auto owner hates to get, that is the call when your mechanic tells you that he found a major problem with your car. You only brought it in for an oil change! According to auto repair shops the top ten most frequent car repairs are:

1) Brake system

2) Oil change/lube

3) Cool system (radiator)

4) Ignition

5) Suspension

6) Fuel system

7) Electrical system

 Transmission

9) Air conditioning

10) Exhaust

There are ways to keep your repair costs down. One of the easiest and best ways is preventative maintenance. Regularly schedule trips to your mechanic or service station can save you lots of money from future problems. Most cars have manufacturer’s maintenance schedules or you can ask your mechanic if they have their own.

Being aware of your car is important as well. Keep your eyes ears and nose open. You can visually check your car yourself. Checking all your fluids and making sure they are topped is an easy thing to do. You can inspect your tires for wear and to see if they require rotation. Do you see oil, water or break fluid under the car?

Be aware of how the car sounds. Does it sound loud while driving. Do you hear squeaks while breaking. Do you hear squealing when you turn? Do you smell fumes or smoke or burning wires? Being diligent can help keep repair coasts down.

When you do have to repair or service, make sure you ask for a written estimate ahead of time. Make sure that the mechanic will ask your approval before any repairs are made. So what they suggest and what may prevent future problems. Finding a good mechanic should be done before you need repairs done. But if you are having your car maintained regularly this should not be a problem. Make sure you are using a competent and professional mechanic for your repair work and servicing. Cheap price does not mean good work. As they say you get what you pay for. Check to see if the mechanic uses new or used parts in the repairs. Make sure the shop is clean and orderly as well.

Some problems are foreseeable and can be prevented, other problems cannot. Having a trustworthy mechanic in mind before anything happens can save a lot of headaches. As cars get older wear and tear does take its toll and repairs will be necessary at some point. Just take care and be aware.

A vehicle is made up of several parts and each need to be maintained on a regular basis. One of the common parts needing constant attention is the wheels and tires. It is ideal to regularly check the tire pressure as well as cleaning the dust off the brakes. The tire pressure affects the vehicle’s fuel economy as well as performance and it should be checked about once a week. The brake dust can be best removed with a damp sponge.

The tires should also be rotated approximately after every five thousand miles and be replaced when their tread bars are too low. The Engine is also another important part of the vehicle that should be maintained. There are belts inside the engine that are supposed to be checked after approximately twenty five thousand miles. The engine is also where the oil is and it is not supposed to be too high or well as too low for the best engine performance.

To be able to know the specific amount of oil in your vehicle you should park it in a level ground and wait for the engine to cool down and use the dipstick. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean then put it back until it reaches the end and pull it out to know the level of oil. The dipstick has the high and low indicated on it to be able to know the level. The coolant level should also be checked in the engine. It is important to go through your vehicle handbook to be able to locate your coolant reservoir. The coolant level should also be between the high and low marks indicated on it. The coolant level should also be checked when the engine has cooled. The radiator cap should not be taken off when checking the coolant level.

You should also check the vehicle handbook to find out the recommended fuel for your vehicle and always use what is specified. The vehicle’s interior as well as the exterior also need to look good and to do this you need quality waxes and polishes. Things like bird poop should be washed of as soon as possible. Many cars users would also think of changing the car music system which will involve the battery efficiency. When disconnecting the battery you should start with negative terminal first then the positive. When reconnecting it should be the positive terminal first. It is also good to clean the terminal caps with wire brush.

The vehicle lights are also very important. The indicator lights should be checked from time to time. Headlight bulbs are also supposed to be working properly and an important thing to put in mind is hold the metal bulb holder at the base when changing them. The dash board warning lights are also very sensitive and you should be well familiarized by going through your vehicle’s handbook. These lights include the service engine light, brake warning lights, coolant warning light and oil warning light.
